Dragonmart is a huge mall filled with a seemingly endless amount of small shops and stalls that sell Chinese products – you won’t find any high street shop here. Items on display range from small toys and entire playground set ups, to home decorations, cheap clothes and electronics, kitchen utensils and industrial-sized kitchen machines, fishing gear, outdoor furniture and fake grass in every imaginable colour, lighting solutions, gardening and building tools, golden 4-poster beds, sculptures and prints, … you name it.
For every item, there are usually numerous stalls that sell the same, or varieties thereof, so if you find something you like you can shop around and haggle for prices. It’s not surprising that their slogan is:
“Where you can find one in a million, or a million of one“.
Even if you don’t buy anything, this is an unusual mall for the UAE scene that is just fun to stroll through due to the random stuff on offer. Dragonmart2 is currently being built and will supposedly add more shops, cinema and entertainment, restaurants and even a hotel.
Best buys we’ve made at this place include:
- Blackout curtains made to measure, while you wait – these may cost you a fortune if you buy these in town. Here, you can choose from endless types of fabrics and rails, and have them made the way you want for a great price.
- Fishing gear. Definitely cheaper than abroad, so we stocked up on tackle for our trip to New Zealand.
- Kitchen utensils.
- And of course, mini quadcopters…
I have had a bad experience with the electronics though: I bought a socket converter for cheap, but paid the price with a good electric shock. As you’d expect, cheap is not always equal to good quality. I won’t be making that mistake again!
Dragonmart is located in the Emirate of Dubai along Al Awir Road, between the Hatta/Oman road and International City.
