Visa Run Alternative – Fly to Oman

Don’t feel like driving through the desert for hours to renew your UAE visitor’s visa? An excellent alternative to driving across the Omani boarder is to simply book a return flight to Oman. Rotana Jet offers a special visa renewal fare of only 306 AED for a return flight to Muscat – you board your plane at Abu Dhabi International Airport Terminal 2; without having to go through immigration in Muscat you go to the Rotana Jet desk to pick up your boarding pass for your return flight; you get straight back on the same plane to return to Abu Dhabi immediately. No lay over – the plane waits for you and the turnaround is a matter of a few minutes. Terminal 2 has ample parking and is very small, and a breeze to travel through. One security check, one waiting hall, one little duty free shop and a café.

Note that the special visa renewal fare is not available online – you need to call Rotana Jet to book, or head over to their office at Al Bateen Airport in Abu Dhabi. I had little luck with getting through to them on the phone and went to the office, where the staff was very helpful. I only booked 1 day in advance and paid the fixed visa renewal fare. Super efficient process.

[Note: This process may depend on your nationality. I belong to one of the nationalities that automatically receives a 30 day visitor’s visa upon entry to the UAE. For other nationalities, other rules may apply!]
