I’ve always enjoyed dancing but I knew nothing about swing dancing when I went along to my first dance class with Swing Dance Abu Dhabi … what I found was a great surprise: free classes, followed by social dancing, a group of young people teaching classes just for the love of it, and a very friendly international mix of people from all walks of life.
It doesn’t matter if you’ve danced before, or if you even know what swing dancing, Lindy Hop, Charleston, or triple steps are. If you want to have some fun dancing to some awesome music and meet some new people, come join a class! The group currently meets at Al Muneera (Al Raha Beach East) on Monday nights at 8pm for a one hour class followed by social dancing until late. Get-togethers at weekends are also being organised, to allow people to socialise at the weekend and put their new skills to the test while dancing to some live music in town. Another opportunity to join the fun is to go along to the classes and socials run by the Lindy-Hop Dubai group on Sunday evenings at Speakeasy and there is always a group of people driving up from Abu Dhabi – again, the classes are completely free.
Every week sees new people join the classes – newbies are always taught the basics and brought up to speed, while the more experienced people get to advance and learn new steps. I have never felt left behind or bored. The teachers are absolutely awesome and they are giving these classes simply for the love of dancing, but the level of instruction is as good as you’d get in a dance school that charges you a fortune. So – Aengus, Laura, Trevor and Britt – thank you so much! You guys rock.
Bring a bottle of water and come join us. You’ll love it!
